A drilling rig needed to bore a relief well aimed at halting the flow of an oil and gas well blowout in Assumption Parish has been erected and could be ready for drilling by Monday, Louisiana State Police said.
Located between the blowout site and La. 1003 and north of La. 70, the relief rig is nearly assembled and undergoing routine preparations for drilling, Trooper Bryan Zeringue, spokesman for State Police Troop C, said Friday.
...Barden said the relief well will go down 7,000 feet of true vertical depth but probably drill about 8,000 feet in length.
The relief well will be drilled directionally and have some curve in it so it can intersect the existing well, Barden said.
The relief well is about 2,700 feet away from the blowout on the surface.
