The Australian Human Rights Commission is concerned about proposed counter-terrorism
laws that will make it an offence for Australians to travel or stay in a declared zone
where terrorists are active.
People convicted of preparing for or participating in a foreign conflict face life
imprisonment.
At a parliamentary inquiry into the government's foreign fighters bill, commission
president Gillian Triggs called for more leeway to allow "innocent" activity in those
