I think labor lost some of the aboriginal vote at the last state election in NT, so probably why she is so desperate to try and claw that back.
And Gillard is also desperte not to see the senate go to the libs because then the carbon tax and other unwanted legislation (by the majority) which she has shoved through with her labor/green friendly senate might be repealed.
