To say she never talked about pricing carbon prior to the last election is a complete and utter lie.
The fact is she did promise a price on Carbon(CPRS,ETS) but not a tax.
The Greens promise a direct price on Carbon eg a Tax
Labor didn't win a majority so they needed the Greens help to get a price, the Greens wanted the direct priced , Labor compromised by offering to have a short term tax and a long term market based price it had promise to implement for the last two elections (as did Howard in 2007).
Adults compromise to achieve goals even if that means they are unable to fulfill promises to the letter due to a change in circumstance eg not being in a majority government is a change in circumstance , but to say this all came out of the blue and no one knew Labor wanted to price carbon is just garbage.
Grow up and start acting like adults not stubborn school yard bullies screaming out liar lair pants on fire.

"JULIA Gillard says she is prepared to legislate a carbon price in the next term.
It will be part of a bold series of reforms that include school funding, education and health.
In an election-eve interview with The Australian, the Prime Minister revealed she would view victory tomorrow as a mandate for a carbon price, provided the community was ready for this step.
"I don't rule out the possibility of legislating a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, a market-based mechanism," she said of the next parliament. "I rule out a carbon tax."
This is the strongest message Ms Gillard has sent about action on carbon pricing.
While any carbon price would not be triggered until after the 2013 election, Ms Gillard would have two potential legislative partners next term - the Coalition or the Greens. She would legislate the carbon price next term if sufficient consensus existed."
