    the product is an animal less then 350 kg prior to loading on board and you only get one "crop" a year.after that weight you have problems with marketing. no income for twenty plus months would cripple most businesses. even breeding cows are rarely kept after twelve year old before a long trip to become hamburger beef. the northern territory producers arent arguing against the welfare regulations in place already.they are in complete agreement. mortality rates in transit are less than cattle out in the paddock without high class care. what they are complaining about is the victimisation of them when they have complied with and enhanced animal treatment, based on the small percentage of non compliant indonesian handlers when the australian producers have no influence. large numbers of australian producers have been to indonesia and seen the abbotoirs like elders operation that is totally acceptable to australian standards.
