that is not good enough, the idea that rudd can spend his time holidaying overseas, working on his personal job with the UN...
watch the backlash....this is a whopping poisened chalice
she promised him the job to keep him quiet during the election....she does not have to keep that promise....
remember under rudd, no promises were kept

smith has done an excellent job....he was hardly ever overseas...
we do have telephones and video links ..
laurie oaks summed it up in an article today...
rudd was a bully, and intimidated all his cabinet
    extract.....

But I don't. The undiplomatic truth is quite a few Rudd government ministers were pretty gutless. A cowed caucus is bad enough, but a timid Cabinet guarantees poor government. Ministers whinged about Rudd micro-managing issues and centralising power in his own office.

They complained about being unable to get decisions out of the PM's office, and about chaotic management that produced policy backlogs and bottlenecks.

But they did nothing about it. Cabinet has the power to pull a PM into line, but members of the Rudd Cabinet simply allowed themselves to be rolled.

Some of them muttered pathetically they could never get to see Rudd. Gough Whitlam's ministers would have just barged through the door if a matter was important enough.
