While I am not a big fan of the mining tax, I thought that it could be used as a means to develop Australia as a knowledge economy in the future. Namely incubate money raised to invest in research and develop new knowledge based industries whereby Australia is not dependent on minining in the longer term.
Personally I am horrified that the mining tax will simply be wasted and even worse our limited future knowledge based industries will be cut in the next budget.
