Let's realise first this will not affect PRR or companies in a similar position as this funding applies in the early research days and in the main used to fund PhD people to remain in australia to continue their research. PRR used it in the early 90's. Australia has a proud record in medical research and for the sake of $400million p/a it's worth every cent. Add to that the fact that for every dollar spent in medical research the return to the Australian economy is $5+.(Access Economics) If the cuts are made it is certain that we will lose the research scientists to other countries or other professions. We could lose a whole generation of medical researchers. I urge everyone to follow the link with a plea to the PM urging the Govt. to show its commitment to Australian medical research by calling for, as a minimum, maintenance of NHMRC funding in the upcoming budget. Go for it everyone.
