Fillip R, you're rewriting history about 1966, too. Low unemployment in 1966 had little to with a mining boom. In 1966 Australia had a large, protected manufacturing sector based on low, low wages. You might recall while being driven through working class suburbs by your chauffeur, the total neglect of houses, the poor streetscapes, and the lack of anything after close of business at 5. You might recall that so few Australians had phones that it was standard for large employers to have runners to inform employees about shift changes. You probably whinged about the cost of runners! And I seem to remember your pathetic liberal mates in Canberra morbidly keeping Australia in the doldrums for nice people like Johnny & Mal & Billy & Sonya, while in Sydney, the liberals ran organised crime, oh, sorry, racing, oh, sorry, we just should have ran over the bastards, eh, Fil?
Give the conservative crackpots and freaky staring sheilas in Canberra the boot they deserve on Saturday. Vote ALP!
