firstly, a gillard/swan ticket carries no insurance policy for the unions as it was in a krudd/gillard ticket
secondly, shorten has all the keating fire to make good in the ALP n be a union (and union cronies) loyalist
thirdly, swan is seen as too treacherous for the union bosses who know that krudd was his son's godfather and by gillard's own confession he cannot snake his way to be godfather of any gillard offspring
