Tanner's book is largely about how politicians don't exist in the public's eyes if they don't get media coverage.
Rudd is very good at turning the spotlight on himself which must infuriate Julia & Co. This is especially problematic if Rudd systematically times it to take the coverage when Julia is announcing positive things, and the leaving the full glare on Julia for the negatives.
I must say he's picking and choosing his contests well. He must be enjoying himself immensely. No wonder he is always smiling these days.
