although i'm not referring to the 'refugee camp' detainees, some at the camps might be genuine refugees and are deserving cases; DEFINITELY not the people smugglers' 'refugees'.

i remember a vienamese refugee i met at a washington train station who happened to be a detainee at a camp in singapore i visited in the 1980s. he was an ex-customs officer n was trying to enrol at the catholic university to become an electronics engineer after spending 3 years in singapore. he was definitely no trash. subsequent years i found out he completed his studies n had a new life in the US.

the problem with labor policy is that it's been idealogical and i suspect to an extent based on an inferiority complex - how can we reject all these 'poor things' who don't mind coming to join the 'white trash'.
