Trump actually lied about EV's and his success in helping the auto business. In fact, the year prior to the pandemic automakers were actually making a loss.
Sorry for the politics but politics/economics go hand in hand.
Trump didn't take in the public growing demand for electric vehicles and ignored that China was growing their auto industry. Automobile industries are big factors in country economics.
Despite Trump's boasting he created jobs in the auto industry. Jobs were lost 26k from 2019 to 2020. In fact, six manufacturing plants were closed before the pandemic hit.
