They knew they couldn't compete and it was widely publicized in Greece but they were promised they would be propped up as they needed them in. Greece is the centre of Europe even if they have a small population of 11 million. They also didn't want Greece to to take advantage of a devalued currency(Drachma) right in the middle of the Euro. Greece would of been a large beneficiary.

They now pulled the Rug from beneath Greece and they appropriately Rised Up.

So scared they are of Greece leaving and unraveling this Mess that they forgave half their Debt. They should relinquish the rest as the whole mechanism is flawed with no central bank to buy the debt. Their design of selling their debt to market even though it is mainly bought up by the Euro Countries(Ponzi Scheme) is exposed to Market manipulation and the Bonds priced according to what CNBC,Bloomberg and the US Reporting Institutions want them to. The US owes more % per capita than Greece but their Fed Reserve keeps on digitally printing as much as they need. So to does Australia through the RBA.

The Greek Gov offers an early retirement age at 55. If you accept you receive a lump sum payment and you never get another cent again. Actually, this is a good deal for the Gov as Inflation is not calculated. Only 2% of the retirees actually accepted this. You see, Greeks can count. So up to that one for the Propagandist out there. Greeks actually have the highest age for work participation.

Second, Greece is the only Country that has a threat of War Daily in the Euro.(from the Turks).
In the past 6 years Turkey has bought 18 Frigates, so Greece has bought 18. You need Frigates to protect Islands. Turkey has no Islands. I believe France has 2 Frigates and England 1. You do the Math. Turkey has 8 times Greece's population.
