Hi Excalibur You are right about GBG/Karara not being able to control the swell, no more than King Canute could stop the tide. I did read somewhere way back about how many days per annum were expected to be lost due to swells (I think it may have been around 40). I tried searching the Geraldton Port website but so far haven't found what I want. However, go to http://www.gpa.wa.gov.au/Seaview.aspx?WebPageId=53 for daily details of the current swell and tides. The swells that stopped ships entering the harbour in the last couple of weeks were up to 9 metres, and I am wondering at what height the harbour master considers shipping movements unsafe. I guess apart from swells, he would also have to take into account tides and wind. Anyway, the swell for today is at 2.15 metres which seems pretty normal. Cantankerous Jim
