Whilst I don't advocate government help except perhaps in infrastructure, perhaps you should look at who benefits from all these mines on the edge of the desert - sure the overpaid participants in the industry but that is nothing compared to Australia as a whole. This country would still be in the third world without mining (and agriculture)
