Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett could be about to breathe a little easier with a rescuer for the state’s embattled Oakajee Port & Rail project reportedly waiting to pounce – and it’s Chinese as well. According to the Australian Financial Review, Chinese-backed Gindalbie Metals is ready to come in and support the project once exclusivity afforded to Murchison Metals and Japan’s Mitsubishi expires. The news will be a relief to Barnett who was forced to put out some fires in Beijing after Chinese companies were originally excluded from the crucial infrastructure project that will ultimately be used to ship minerals to China. Incidentally, Gindalbie Metals has also just signed a 10-year, $900 million haulage agreement with QR National.
