that and he wanted to hear the singing of the sirens because it is told that their voice holds wisdom. so he put wax in his crew's ears so that they wouldn't hear the singing. then they tied him to the head of the ship and sailed. the reason that the crew couldn't hear the singing is if a crew hears the singing the start to drift into the rocks and there they crash.
