The UN University figures for mobile phone recycling almost doubles the figures I gave and that's by the looks of it the average of all phones (basic/smartphone) so work the figure out on 1.8 billion phones and you've got a number not to be sneezed at..
Heck I'll do it for you: 0.5833g silver and 0.0566g gold per phone multiplied by 1.8b is 1050T of silver and 102T gold.
If that's what goes into mobile phones alone, just imagine the numbers for the entire electronic industry.. Pretty huge, certainly worth a mention, or two.
