.Basel III.. It is my understanding and I may well be wrong but here it is...Australia has been implementing the recommendations of the agreement for some years now. June 27 is when a few other countries have to become compliant.
Put simply the agreement fundamentally enhances national and global financial stability by both raising the level of capital required by banks, and by simplifying the regulatory framework. Part of the accord is that they must increase their Tier One assets, it is my understanding that gold will become a tier one asset for commercial banks instead of a tier three asset position it holds now.. I think that's the gist of it but I only started reading about it yesterday.. So feel free to correct me
