Yet the cheapest form of energy is now solar and wind. And it is capitalism that is driving the spread of renewable energy.

There is no company that will now invest in coal for the reason that by the time a new coal-fired power station is built the price of energy will be too low for coal to compete and the investment will, within 15 years, become a stranded asset. Do you think that Govt should fund a new coal-fired plant? So what does this say about capitalism reluctance to engage in Govt subsidies?

All that is missing is the Govt transition plan which will ensure there are appropriate guidances for companies to invest in areas that need co-ordination and balance so that we develop a grid infrastructure that is capable of being sustainable and manage the changes involved in energy production and delivery.

The anti-renewable arguments are now totally irrational and ideological in foundation. - ideology is often irrational.

As for global warming, the longer we resist the transient to renewable energy and other efforts on greenhouse gas emissions the greater will be the cost. And this doesn't take into account the tremendous costs of remediation of global warming impacts such as fire and storm damage. I assume you are aware that insurance companies are restricting their commitments to pay out on such destructive consequences. This is not due to lobbying or other pressures applied by "leftie greenie loonies" but is sensible business decision-making.
