re: global flu epidemic update on cause As I suspected the cause of the outbreak is not influenza virus. According to today's South Morning Post the cause of the outbreaak is a member of the Paramyxoviridae group of viruses. This group includes parainfluenza (1), mumps, measles and respiratory syncytial virus (2). 1 usually causes respiratory tract infections in children and infants as does 2. Soometims the infections can be severe, but it is not common in adults. It sounds like there has been a mutation and the virus has picked up a new gene somethwere.

I do not know how relenza etc works but it is likely that it will not work in this case.
