    Hi Misty

To conceal information is not that hard given the right kind of organisation. The ones you list, worthy or not as the case may be, are still amateurs. All political parties (i'd imagine) engage in mutual blackmail. When a juicy bit of info drops into their lap, it would be stored in a dirt file, to be used at the most advantageous moment, bearing in mind the limited shelf life of some info. That means the info has to be used, not ultimately kept secret. And how many of the "leaks" are carefully orchestrated?

The real pros at this game would be the intel agencies and organised crime(if there is a real differenceLOL). Remember back in 1995 when Britain extended the War Secrets act by 30 years from the original 50 years? Why would that be? Nothing of importance or relevance after this time, all the players are dead or as good as. Too many people still interested in WW2. When no one cares all is revealed. What can be possibly left to reveal? That is just a simple example.

It is easy to keep people quiet. Why would anyone think otherwise? Where did this "lone whistleblower" theory come from? Sure there have been a few, but as a general statement that no secret can stay secret forever is preposterous.
Even on a logical level it is suspect, as how do we know of a secret that has been successfully kept? Short answer, we don't.

How would secrets be kept for long periods? At least amongst the professionals(both intel and mafia) it would involve threats, blackmail, bribery, patriotism or simply murder. All easy and doable(if one is a sociopath).

    cheers
