Global Switch has unveiled a new $300 million data centre called Sydney East to complement its existing facility, Sydney West, in Sydney’s central business district. Once completed, the Tier III data centre will have a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.35, 67 megawatts (MW) of power and approximately 67,000 square metres of space.

According to Global Switch executive chairman and CEO, John Corcoran, the new data centre has been built in response to a “number of national and multi-nation companies” seeking space to host their IT equipment. The vendor began construction of Sydney East in February 2013 after receiving building approval from the New South Wales Department of Planning in 2010. At the time, Corcoran said Global Switch had signed up anchor tenants for over 50 per cent of the first stage of Sydney East. While he was not able to publicly name the companies, they included a software and services firm, global systems integrator, multinational IT corporation and a managed services provider.

The company is currently building a 45,000 square metre data centre in Hong Kong and recently opened a facility in Singapore.
