    I consult (IT) to one of the larger power generators in NSW which is coal-fired.

    Although the power generation, transmission and energy retailing sector maybe eventually sold to the private sector in the near future - I can tell you that the current infrastructure investment/s in this sector is staggering.

    For example; Coal-fired generators are investing in upgrading their turbines and generation outputs at huge costs. They are also investing in deploying pioneering filtering and re purposing technologies to reuse and to reduce CO2 emissions.

    Wind, Solar and other renewable alternative are years and years away before they have any hope of producing the generation capacity of today's usage - let alone meeting the projected energy consumption forecasts of the future.

    So, I would say IMHO from where I sit, these utilities in their current form will be around a lot longer than we would all expect.
