Absolutely not. Renewable power generation is a direction of the future and yes, it begins here and now. Despite this though - it is all about 'Capacity' and renewable gens are at present producing a fraction of today's consumption needs.
Coal-fired & Gas are the only (current) means to generate what we need TODAY here in Aust. Yes they are inefficient, dirty, costly et al, but we are years behind in having renewable energy means starting to make a considerable contribution on the capacity front I'm afraid.
Do I think we will get their with renewable methods - yes I do, however it is years away at best and we still need to support current generation consumption.
