hmmmm - it may or may not be the, or an, important election issue
IMO - what SHOULD be the most important issue is Oz and every other nation preparing for economic survival in a very rapidly approaching fully automated society
why would I say that is more important than climate change or health or education or anything else??
because if we don't get the system right for economic survival when automation hits
we can just forget everything else - no one will care about climate, there'll be no health systems, education systems, there'll be no corporate businesses - because there'll be no customers - there'll be basically nothing that's recognisible
if humans don't begin to experiment with this coming era - we're buggered
we know it's an issue - because when one gets people like Elon Musk stumped for ideas on the subject - one knows that there's really not going to be an easy route ahead
I can't remember Musk's exact words on the subject - but, he said words to the effect that ---- I guess, it's got to be a UBI -what else is there
well - if a thinker like Musk is fresh out of ideas - then, we better get on with it ---------- pronto -
because if we have nothing in place -------------- it's game over - and, the world will have to just put up with whatever we chuck at it
