Yellowcake, Not my field but isn't the reason for Roundup Ready seed is so the amount and strength of glyphosate that can be applied is increased, due to increasing resistance in weeds? Therefore it's going in the wrong direction.
Also I have read about so-called Terminator seeds, that only can be planted for 1 generation. If you try and save the seed to replant again it either mutates or fails to germinate. This seems particularly grim, as you cannot even recover enough seed for you to replant a crop.
Seems that the GM route would make the producers totally dependant on the agri-giants for their seed. Once everyone was on the dripfeed they would just keep squeezing the price harder and harder each year.
