    No doubt St Barbara’s half-year earnings report and share price pummelling made for some uncomfortable reading for investors and Raleigh Finlayson’s Genesis Minerals, which is in the throes of a $1 billion merger deal to create a major new gold play.

    It also sent the Perth rumour mill into overdrive, amid speculation Finlayson may be able to renegotiate the terms of the nil-premium deal if the situation at St Barbara gets bad enough.
