Imagine you've got a very serious illness. You know that there is a good chance you are going to die, but you like to hope that you will make a full recovery. The problem is, you've got a friend who feels it's his duty to call you up on the phone every night and remind you that you are probably going to die - just in case you've lost sight of that possibility and are getting your hopes up unnecessarily. Though well intentioned, it's actually a pretty insensitive and hurtful thing for your friend to do. After all, who wants to be reminded, night after night, that there is a good chance that they are going to die? To make matters worse, sometimes that friend will call you up several times in the one night, because he thinks that you are just not getting the message.
