The ARTC hopes to have repaired rail tracks and signalling infrastructure in the Maitland NSW area by this Friday, 15 July. The Maitland flooding has meant no trains since some time on Tuesday 5 July, so hardly ideal, but it's the 'hand of God'.

Coal trains should recommence that night. It's suggested grain and intermodal (container) trains won't restart until the initial backlog of coal trains reduces.

Given the ARTC is undertaking Inland Rail works north of Narrabri until October 2022, rail access from Moree is unavailable, but the branch line from Narrabri to Walgett (and Merrywinebone) is open, as is the crosscountry Werris Creek - Binnaway line, which are all sources of grain.

At present, GNC grain trains from say the Riverina in NSW have to travel via Leightonfield in Sydney to access Port Kembla.

If GNC wishes to rail Riverina grain to Carrington (Newcastle NSW), it can, as the line through Gosford has reopened following flooding at Cockle Creek (a Newcastle suburb). However there's typically a weekday peak periods freight train curfew through the Sydney suburban area (North Strathfield to Gosford.
