The 6.5 per cent drop in GNC to A$7.94 on Tuesday 2 August 2022's morning (to 1100 AEST) may be due to how wheat futures dropped almost three per cent overnight and canola futures declined almost five per cent on news of the first bulk ship loaded with grain departing the Ukraine for a long time, bound for Lebanon via an inspection in Turkey.
The Canadian canola crop is also expected to be very good. I don't know if that's a factor.
However anyone who reads the Perth speech in the Investor Day thread on 'HC' will conclude that this limited resumption from Ukraine is no great threat to GNC's role as a handler, because demand for Australian grains remains robust to say the least. GNC isn't a price maker/graingrower - it's a marketer and handler.
