My concern would be investing in a small new energy company that really relies on grants or government cheques and ongoing favourable project assistance by government corporations to get projects across the line in the first instance and propping up ongoing operations. And to see if they would survive the long term without ongoing assistance from, lets face it, government's that are pumping borrowed money from their budgets into these business to be seen to doing the right thing. What happens if this government money runs out into the future before the projects can earn a decent return on capital that would justify the business?

GNX doesn't neet additional funding from Govt, if it successfully sees K2H through to operation. It got a $610m fixed rate LOAN (cost to government negligible) from the NAIF, and the project was supported by Queensland Government build of high voltage line costing ~$150m. Final cost of Arena grant (including the converted loan) was around $56m was the only gift because, as I think of it, Arena wanted data on the real costs of building a pumped hydro, and GNX would face unknown challenges in getting the project up creating a hurdle for the first movers.
