Dakota Minerals is the Australian mining company that intends to invest between 185 and 370 million euros in Montalegre in the creation of a complex of extraction and processing of lithium compounds for the manufacture of batteries.

The objective is the use of lithium for the production of batteries that supply electric cars, whose sales increased more than 200% in Portugal in January alone.
Dakota Minerals forecasts an investment of between 185 and 370 million euros by 2019 in the montalegrense region for exploration of the mine and the construction of a factory to process the lithium compounds. What is intended is to process lithium in Portugal with the use of hydropower and export the product in electric trucks to the existing battery factories in Europe.
"We know that this is a huge deposit with a very great relevance. In terms of quantity of product there are conditions for it to be exploited. The first signs that have come indicate an excellent quality of the mineral. That way, more day, less day naturally we will have the investment here, "explained Orlando Alves, president of the Municipal Council of Montalegre.
The mayor of Barrosão was very optimistic about the investment that the Australian mining company will make in the region: "One thing I know for sure. It is a divine gift that is falling us here and we must know how to seize it so that jobs can be created in the region and so that the necessary sustainability can be achieved. "
At the exploration and analysis stage, the mining company invested about one million euros. With the realization of the exploration and the project of the factory, it is predicted the creation of 200 jobs.
