It raised my eyebrows somewhat, being only the second earthquake of note in this area that I can remember, I do know we have may small quakes, but we can't feel those!

As you say, having all of your generating operations in one area isn't a good idea on a number of accounts,war/terrorism is one and earthquakes another, especially if they can trip the generators out of service, but there are other factors which make distributed power a far better option as well, you place your generation closer to where it is required, with that the losses in power delivery are less, if one supply goes down then the others take over, it would also help prevent terrorist replicating what happened in the US a year or two back, where the whole grid nearly failed because they shot out insulators etc, in areas where the grid was highly susceptible to grid failure if certain elements were taken out, whoever did it knew what they were doing, it very nearly worked!
