There simply won't be a purpose for SMRs in Australia. They are too small to be effective and no one will have one of them in their community. And then there's the security issue you never talk about .

Remember the kerfuffle lats year in WA when a tiny little radioactive source fell off a truck ? Whose going to want that spread all over the country side ?

Australia's problem will most likely be too much electricity. Not too little.

l'm not writing off SMRs for ideological reasons.

l'm writing them off on sheer impracticality.

1. They don't exist in 2024.

2. Their projected price is crazy expensive in 2024 let alone in a decade .

3. No one will want them in their community. No one.

4. They will require very strict round the clock security .

5. They are too small to be effective.

6. Grid batteries and the energy storage capacity of an ev fleet are a much better, much cheaper, much safer alternative.

7. The grid is being shaped around renewables plus energy storage today.
