I am not aware of this, but it comes down to the dollar.
Delta probably just care about getting sued if someone gets sick or dies and can link it to their flight and practices.
People get sued for stupider things than that in the US, sounds like a risk mitigation exercise.
They can say ' we were doing everything we could' in court.
