I recall him restating his leanings after he closed down operations in defiance of a union fracas. The usual thing about some unions are bad, some are good, but he would always be a labor/union man.

I recall being invited to a QANTAS anniversary do about ~10 years ago where he an John Travolta held court in a maintenance hanger. They share a lot of things including a love for old plane schedules or something like that.
