All the woes Qantas is going through at the moment, is all of his making, as the CEO.
The airline was never going to go broke with the government bankrolling its survival, with no conditions attached. Tax payer money which was never negotiated to be repaid at some future time.
The early retirement was probably more to avoid the on coming shit show.
Current airline ranking is a testament of his legacy, not for surviving the Covid endemic, as once they off loaded the majority of blue / white workers, Qantas was doing quite well from the Freight operations.
