The famines are spiritual famines. The wars are spiritual wars. The Tribulation is spiritual, in that there will be great confusion as to which religion one should turn to and the Abomination of Desolation tells us that none of the major religions, in any form, by any of their sects, or factions, will represent G.d in any way. All the major religions are corrupt beyond redemption and are run by imposters.

Now once you get past the true, spiritual meaning of the Battle of Armageddon, you then come to the secondary battles.

The battle of race.
The battle of gross financial inequality.
The battle of religion.
The battle of gender inequality.
The battle of physical dominance, literal war.
The battle against nature and the cost of the denaturing of our planet.
The battle against disease.

All these start as an inner battle of the human spirit and end up playing out in physical consequences. We are part way through the Battle of Armageddon and its many stages right now.
