you are right that Iluka has plenty of outs in that mou. However if the technology does scale up to give the same results as the pilot plant then Iluka will have the rights to tie up a technology which is cheaper AND produces 98% TiO2 vs the current best 93/93% then Iluka must move on it. Given this occurs (and the trial to date indicate it has a high chance to do so) then Iluka will not be able to walk away from tying up a major advance in the technology of their core product.
Speculative yes, but if the ducks all line up Iluka will take up their options.
