How can you tell this? It's obvious a new holder, or we'd have seen 1% change notices by now, but without a substantial holder notice I don't see how we can know who's been buying.

Surely a better approach to a takeover would have been to offer $3/share when the price was 50c, not to push the share price to $1.50 while accumulating 5%. But perhaps someone else is buying on rumours of a takeover, rather than the potential acquirer itself.
Leaked information about a deal for Testosterone MD-Lotion - say $150 million up front plus royalties - or even a really good Ellavie partnership - maybe $50 million up front plus royalties - would be enough to warrant the kind of aggressive buying we've seen.
