1443 [Dow Jones] Aztec Resources (AZR.AU) jumps 5.3% to 20 cents on heavy trading of
14.9 million shares. Rise follows report in West Australian newspaper that cashed-up
Mount Gibson Iron (MGX.AU) well advanced on 25 cents/share bid for AZR. MGX rumored to
have backing of Gindalbie Metals (GBG.AU), which is developing iron ore operation in
WA's midwest region, where MGX mines, exports. GBG might seek to merge with MGX if
AZR takeover suceeds, report says. In statement, MGX notes report, says concept could be
of interest, says "considering a number of different corpoate options as part of its
ongoing strategic planning," about which no decision has yet been made. GBG chairman
dismissed report. GBG adds 0.9%, MGX adds 0.7%. (RCB)
