The the younger folk who were not around in 1980 and often refer to the "previous highest peak" forget that the REASON for this peak was the Shah of Iran and his family were on the point of being ousted from Iran and were madly buying up gold at ANY price.

I believe it is wrong to take this unique political induced spike as a "previous high" as it was a one-off event and had nothing to do with the economy of the world.
