There's also another big fear out there. When gold briefly hit US$500 after the 1987 crash, gold shares were also crashing and not saved by the rising gold price.

So there are plenty of people fearing a major correction in the US, but they are not interested in buying gold shares on that basis. However in 1987 gold was finalising its bear market rally.

This time gold is in a real bull market, though taking off rather slowly. Once gold goes through US$500 and stays there I anticipate many to say, "Hey this is the real thing." That's when I anticipate the first real rush into gold shares.
