I wish I have the skills to play and gain in futures, whether gold, oil or corn. Yes, you read that c-word right.
But sadly, I know for a fact that I don't because I lose more often than not at the casino (fav game is blackjack; can't get more instant futures than that, eh?). A casino regular taught a me guaranteed way to walk out with $10k every time I went in. That was to go in with $20k. Ah those irresponsible years spent bingeing grog and gambling for days; a deadly combination...
Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I got the impression that you would be about my age bracket. If so, then you should be able to withdraw your super (if not now then in the near future) and invest the funds yourself. It would be more effective than investing via the superfund with all its restrictive conditions.
I like land, not so much bricks and mortar. But have done well in both. For me, gold is second only to land. The former is portable, while the latter has been sitting there for a million years, secure as. Complementary strengths. Also, if you have land, then your gold storage cost should be minimal. Just need to be sensible and crafty about it. Undoubtedly, most people would freak out with that idea, though.
