IMHO Trunp knows exactly what he is doing. I think he understands the current tarrifs will hurt America and the global economy. But the good old US of A has a few problems, by tearing down the normal expectations of mediocre government and scaring the pants off so many countries world wide he is achieving his aim. That is, many countries now trying to negotiate tarries directly. He will let the scare run for a while, but probably fairly short, then he will change tack on tarrifs , make a deal with trading nations that will immediately bring tarrifs down to a level, and in such a way that will benefit America. Other nations will be happy to accept a little pain which favours America rather than what's on the table now. So the global economy will pick up, the American market will pick and go gang busters and the economy will start picking up. Trump will have at least three years to bask in the good times. 5his is just a giant business negotiation. There will be a LOT of money to be made by those ready for a big market reversal.
