American financial commentators are always suggested the US is the cleanest shirt in the laundry ie doing better than any other country in the world - I strongly disagree. As the charts below illustrate the USA is only doing well due to its massive budget deficit which is estimated to be 7% this year which is propping up USA’s growth, low unemployment and the sharemarket performance. It is also keeping USA’s interest rates higher than the rest of the world to stop inflation getting out of control.
This ‘party’ of supersized liquidity is only possible because the US is the world’s reserve currency. The USA is sucking in huge amounts of capital from the rest of the world and is creating large unbalances or cracks just waiting to burst.
Just look at the interest on debt the USA is paying - over 4 times the Aussie amount.
The party will end and it won’t be pretty and when it does POG will go much higher.
