    Hey, I've been reading Steinbeck's "East of Eden" where this difference you refer to is highlighted.... also the diffference between brain thinking and mind. The ancient Jewish word Timshel is related from the Old Testament story of Cain and Abel --- timshel is defined as Thou mayest make choices between sin and rejecting sin.....

    Have you read it? I've read a few of Steinbeck's books and stories.... but this is an amazing read.... no bloody wonder he was awarded the Nobel for literature in '62

    Self-love is regarded as a sinful affection while love of the community, the Jewish Tribe, the family and the community within which it resides is the greater good.
