    @Scott th Ratbag
    Thanks for the explanation. You made good sense which given the topic isn't easy.

    Just getting back to your post now after absorbing the joyful post-election vibe. Beyond pleased. Outsiders may not understand so well but with the LNP in Qld, one can never rest easy. They have a history of sidling up so close to special interests and limiting transparency and accountability. Many of us lived under Joh so we understand the fragilities of democracy and the lion's task of returning from that dark autocratic never never. From 1968 to 1987. Having to fight for the return of democratic freedoms. We were the butt of jokes for the rest of Oz which is understandable but also probably made us more parochial and resistant to outside commentary. Oh, the irony that Australia fell over themselves to elect their own Joh last May.

    metathinking or metacognition is '"cognition about cognition", "thinking about thinking", "knowing about knowing", becoming "aware of one's awareness" and higher-order thinking skills." A useful skill in Epicurus' analysed life. Which brings me back to your take on Steinbeck and his supreme ability to dig into his mind and find those poignant tales that resonate. Sad to think he would probably be called a leftie, commie, bleeding heart idealist these days. Just another voice to mute, lest the great unwashed become aware that their humanity can more be found in each other than in one's own lust.

    Lust has its place though.smile.png
